Components: Magnets

Neodymium permanent magnets mounted on steel disks rotate on one or both sides of the stator.  The poles of adjacent magnets are reversed, as are the poles of magnets on the opposing disk of turbines with 2 magnet disks.  As the magnets rotate past the wire coils in the stator, the alternating magnetic flux creates an electromotive force in the wire coils.

Magnet disks are cut from steel plate stock on a plasma cnc system.  Shown below are a pair of 1/4 inch thick steel 12 inch diameter magnet disks for an 8 foot wind turbine after being cut on the plasma cnc system but prior to being cleaned up.
